New Firmware for Panasonic GX1 and 100-300mm Lens ...

Panasonic has announced upcoming firmware updates for the Lumix GX1 and G VARIO 100-300mm / F4.0-5.6 / MEGA O.I.S. lens. The GX1 firmware update shall improve AWB performance, enhance the performance of the AF-F and AF-C focus modes, improve operational stability with UHS-I compliant memory cards, add Step Zoom and Zoom Speed to the options selectable via the Fn button and the Q menu, and more. The firmware update for the lens will improve the performance of the optical image stabiliser. The firmware updates will be available in the end of January at Panasonic’s Customer Support Site.

Yes, it was in May 2009 when I bought a new 85mm lens for my Nikon D90 and decided only take photos on the street with this lens. But I will sell the X100 soon and will buy the new Lumix GX1 which will have a better autofocus and ISO values. But I don't shoot with the 85mm lens on the street anymore. Maybe when Nikon brings out the D800 which is full frame I will make my candid portraits with an 85mm lens. Since you don't see the way of focussing in the photo, I do not bother how it was done. It's everyone's own decision what to use to shoot in the streets. I didn't thought about getting closer and shooting full scenes in the future. I love my GF1 although the image quality on the X100 is better. So I created profiles and a web page with this name....

Second, of all the cameras I've tested (Lumix TZ3, Kodak V1253, Canon SX100 and Casio S880), this delivers as good if not better picture quality. All these cameras take quality photos, but depending on the circumstances, some are better than others. First, the camera is nearly the size of a credit card and is perfect for taking along to the park or backyard or anywhere you don't want to drag the larger SLR. Furthermore, the video capture is accessible by a single recording button next to the view finder so you don't have to switch modes, you just have to It's even better than the Kodak which boasts HD @ 720p. Third, it has widescreen (16x9) video capture. I have been searching for the right ultra portable camera with particular features and have been trying several. Excellent quality....

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS8 14.1 MP Digital Camera with 16x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD (Black) Review

To meet the price point, the ZS8 video is "downgraded" from the ZS7's full HD to 720p and it doesn't share the blinding speed of it's big brother ZS10 which uses a totally different MOS sensor versus the ZS8's CCD. I purchased the ZS8 as an "upgrade" to my ZS7. The ZS8 fits the prescription nicely. In regular use iResolution does improve the overall contrast, but at the expense of fine detail such as fine hairs or fibers things you'll only notice at a 100% crop. I wasn't overly concerned with video performance as that's something I rarely use, and neither was I too concerned about continuous frame rate. One hint is that when you are shooting very fine detail in good light, you may wish to disable the iResolution. But the image quality is quite good and the zoom capability is remarkable for a pocket camera. For my purposes, I wanted a decent quality pocketable camera with some reach....

Say Cheese! Two Cameras Battle It Out To Be The Perfect RTW Camera

With all of the countries we will be travelling to and all of the hazardous places we may hole up in for the evening, we even made the wise decision to not travel with non-essential valuable items (I’m talking to you iPads.   After we get through the initial turmoil of throwing out my Twilight fan shirts and Tony’s Battlestar Galatica shirts, I know that it will be incredibly refreshing to live the simplistic lifestyle. I am not a huge souvies girl (translation for you non-abbreviation whores: souvenirs), but the one thing I want to take away from each and every place we go is great photos.    The one thing we absolutely do not want to skimp on during our travels. In preparing for our RTW trip in January, Tony and I are excited to toss all of our stuff and scale our lives down to one backpack each.   However, there is one exception to this rule....
