scope information for a hunting rifle?
Leupold VX3L 4.5-14x50mm im considering this scope. very nice. BUT i dont have the slightest clue as to what the 14x50mm stands for. plz help, i know its the magnification but how do you read it? i take most my shots between 100-600 yrs.

The 4.5-14 is the power range adjustment. There should be a mark next to the power rotater at the eyepiece to let you know where the power is set at..just like a ceiling fan switch with 1-2-3 markings ( in this case 4.5 upwards to 14).

Actually I don't have a whole lot to add to Wop's answer, except some questions.
You said its for a hunting rifle, but what kind of shooting are you doing where most of your shots are between 100-600.

The VX means variable magnification with a minimum of 4.5 times the magnification of the object up to 14 times maximum magnification of the object you are looking at. The X 50mm is the size of the front optic lens in millimeters.
